Mask Craft Activity with Serge Attukwei Clottey

Inspired by Serge Attukwei Clottey’s public art sculpture, The Wishing Well, and the artist’s embodiment of a masked water warrior in an impromptu performance at the installation, Desert X created a mask craft activity to do at home.

Mask craft kits were distributed to youth in the community in April 2021. Children participating in the Spring Break Camp at the James O. Jessie Desert Highland Unity Center met the artist in person during their mask workshop. If you’d like a craft kit, please email info@desertx.org. Supplies are limited.

Activity Instructions:

(1) Visit The Wishing Well in Palm Springs and/or

(2) Watch a video of the artist and learn more about the project.

(3) Download the mask activity instruction sheet.

(4) Gather art materials you have in your home.

(5) Make your own warrior mask!
