BoxoHOUSE artist-in-residence Eshan Rafi will share their artistic approaches of working with communities, including most recently documenting sites in Lahore based on their father’s stories growing up, and a performance project drawing parallels between political action and art making. They will share their method of integrating choreographic and photographic approaches into their art practice, as well as how they work with storytelling, games, and archives.
Eshan Rafi first became acquainted with the Mojave through a queer and BIPOC meditation center at which they spent time in community. Through practices of silence, simple daily tasks, and cooking and sharing meals with others, Rafi developed a deep appreciation for the rhythm and character of the desert.
BoxoPROJECTS is a multi-program arts initiative based in Joshua Tree, California, dedicated to exploring contemporary art at the new frontier. It is a research outpost for the investigation and development of ideas related to place, community and the environment.
